This global survey is coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Expert Team on Weather Modification (ET-WM). It aims to document current scientific, operational, and governance aspects of weather modification activities worldwide — including precipitation enhancement, hail suppression, and fog dispersal.
The survey builds on the earlier WMO assessment conducted in 2017 at the request of the WMO Executive Council (Decision 53, EC-69). That review provided valuable insights but also revealed major data gaps, with limited participation and wide variation in how projects were documented and evaluated. The present survey seeks to provide an updated, comprehensive record of global practice and progress since then.
Participation is open to all WMO Members and their designated authorities or organisations involved in weather modification research or operations. Responses will contribute to the development of an updated international dataset and report that will inform WMO guidance, foster collaboration, and support responsible, scientifically credible weather modification practices.
All responses will be treated confidentially and used in aggregated form for analysis. Each participating country is encouraged to submit a separate entry for every distinct project or programme to ensure accurate representation of national and regional activities.
The survey is facilitated by the WMO Secretariat and the ET-WM, with results to be published in the forthcoming Global Survey of Weather Modification Activities.
